The Next Generation in Gaming

So here we are the end of 2013, and the new generation in gaming is upon us! I don’t know about you, but I am super excited to see what this new era in gaming has in store for us. With the advancements in hardware and new technologies being implemented, this is definitely the most exciting update in gaming history.

I have been debating over which system I would like to get as my new centerpiece so I decided to break down the differences between the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. Looking at the specs of both systems, you probably won’t notice a significant difference between the two. Both systems tout 8 core processors and high end graphic capabilities. Both systems have 8 gb of ram, although the Xbox One uses DDR3 while the PlayStation 4 uses GDDR5 which is a faster type of memory. The PlayStation 4 appears to be faster but that doesn’t mean the quality of visuals will necessarily be superior.

The Xbox One’s Cloud based gaming is truly intriguing. By using remote servers in the “cloud”, gameplay experiences may change dramatically as the next generation advances. The possibilities include outsourcing processing tasks, allowing for large, expansive worlds that load seamlessly and life-like simulations and animations. The PlayStation 4 is also cloud based and may be able to produce similar feats at some point during it’s lifetime.

Xbox One Ships with the Kinect, and I personally enjoyed the cool features of the Xbox 360’s version of the Kinect. Moving screens by “Dswiping” my hand felt futuristic and really satisfied my inner nerd. Giving my Xbox commands and swiping felt like we were finally starting to see the next generation of gaming come upon us. The new Kinect is said to be more sensitive and even able to detect your heartbeat. Interesting, I know. The playstation 4 game also has a camera attachment that sells separately that is capable of doing some of the same things, many believe it will not be on the level of the Kinect.

As far as the games are concerned, both systems have titles in the works that I am interested in playing. Some of the new PS4 games I have seen such as Killzone: Shadow Fall and Dying Lights are prime examples of the difference between the current generation of gaming and the new one we are entering into now. The new Xbox One has some good games too. Dead Rising 3 looks amazingly fun to play and Fighter Within seems like a gem that many may be surprised with.
